Threads of Fujiyoshida: nature meets fabric
Japan, 2024
This collection was developed during an artist residency at Saruya AiR in Fujiyoshida, Japan, and emerged from the connection I established with the local materials, the surrounding landscape, its people, and my everyday life throughout the residency.
Through this project, I explore the territory by collecting and experimenting with the materials that Fujiyoshida has to offer. I work with textile offcuts sourced from local factories and handmade paper incorporating leaves and plants gathered from different natural environments. The materials are naturally dyed using pigments extracted from the collected vegetation. Landscape photographs are also transferred onto the surfaces, further embedding the essence of the place within each piece.
The resulting works are collages that combine textile and natural elements, reflecting the organic and intuitive process that emerged through my interaction with the landscape and the local community.
